Elise has her days and her nights backwards. She sleeps all day and she's up every hour and a half or so during the night. I don't get any sleep from about midnight until 5 AM. I couldn't sleep well if I wanted to, because she spits up a lot and I'm terribly afraid that she'll choke on her spit up and die. Every time she makes a noise, I check on her.
Elise, if you ever wonder why Mommy is crazy, just know that it all started with the sleep deprivation beginning shortly after you were born.
I'm reading a good newborn book and just read the section about day-night reversal of schedules. They said one approach is to make daytime active and noisy for baby and try to be hush-hush and quiet and lights out in the night time as much as possible and it might tell her circadian rhythm to kick in a little better and rest more at night. Of course, that works for some babies, but there are a million books about taking care of babies- who knows which is right?!
ReplyDeleteA note on spit up: she's not going to choke. They tell us to sleep on babies on their backs because they know they won't choke. I have witnessed this first hand. While Mikey and I play on the floor, he'll spit up, sputter for a second like a flooded engine and then continue on his merry baby way. So worry not. Plus, you'll sleep again soon. Though it doesn't feel like that now, give it a few more weeks and one morning you'll wake up freaking out because Elise wasn't the one who awoke you. But in reality, she's just sleeping too.
ReplyDeleteYeah, that book also mentioned that babies are good at turning their heads to the side if they are on their backs and they do spit up. They don't want pukey faces either.
