Henry has speech delays and balance problems. I suspected it may have something to do with his ears, so I got him a referral to an ear, nose, and throat doctor.
I'm so glad that I followed my intuition. The doctor said that he has fluid behind his ear drums and gave us a referral to another specialist. At this next doctor's office, Henry will do a test to measure how much fluid is behind his tympanic membrane, which will help the doctors decide if he needs tubes in his ears.
I'm really happy about this. Of course, I don't want there to be anything WRONG with Henry... but he does have problems and so I'm glad his problems look like they can be resolved.
I'll let you know how the test goes.
Did the dr think it was from lots of ear infections? That is usually why little kids get fluid behind their TMs. If you can keep him from getting sick for awhile, and let his ears heal, it may resolve on its own, without surgery. Luckily flu/cold season should be ending soon. If you can keep away from other sick kids for awhile, it may give him a chance to heal. Andy has had 3 colds back-to-back, just from going to his play groups 3x/week. His dr said his trouble sleeping could be due in part to chronic ear infections/fluid behind the ears and to keep him from getting sick.
ReplyDeleteWe started doing a rotating play group (3 to 5 kids and 3 to 5 parents) at mommy's houses who know not to come over if the kids or moms are sick. The public play group we used to go to had about 15 kids and less than vigilant moms bringing kids with snotty noses.
