You've GOT to Be Kidding Me

Elise and I were reading "Good Night Moon" yesterday. On about half of the pages of the book there is an illustration of a red balloon floating in the air.

Elise freaked out.

She'd point to it, ask "bye-yoon? bye-yoon?" (her word for balloon), and then start whining. I'd tell her, yes, it's a balloon and everything is okay. Turn the page. There's another one. "Bye-yoon?! BYE-YOON?!" Fuss, fuss, fuss. She'd put her finger right on the picture, but it still scared her for some reason.

This phobia runs deep.
